WHAT ARE TERPENES
Terpenes are by no means unique to cannabis; they can be found in many herbs, fruits, and plants as well. Terpenes are fragrance oils that give cannabis its aromatic diversity. It’s where Lemon Haze gets its citrus aroma. Where Blueberry AK gets its signature berry smell, and where Sour Diesel gets its funky fuel flavour. These oils are secreted in the flower’s sticky resin glands.
FLAVOUR AND AROMAS OF CANNABIS
Over 200 different types of terpenes have been found in cannabis, each strain having a unique composition and effect. Myrcene, the most common terpene produced by cannabis has an earthy, resinous aroma and, in high levels, produces the “couch lock” phenomenon that is the trademark of Indica strains. It is also a powerful analgesic that has been found to be an effective preventative agent against peptic ulcers.
Limonene is also very popular as its name suggests. It has a citrusy, orange flavour. Found in strains like Super Lemon Haze, it is well known for its uplifting, mood enhancing effects. It also has medicinal qualities which make it a strong antifungal agent and helpful in stress relief.
Other most common terpenes include Pinene, Caryophyllene, Linalool and Humulene.
EXPERIENCE CANNABINOIDS NATURALLY THROUGH "THE ENTOURAGE EFFECT"
The full interaction of all cannabinoid & terpene compounds within the body's endocannabinoid system after delivery is known as the "entourage effect". The individual terpene profile in each strain influences the "high" one experiences due to the synergy or intercommunication of the compounds in that flower. Like cannabinoids, terpenes bind to receptors in the brain and give rise to various effects. Terpenes are fragile so to prevent degradation, always store sealed in a cool & dark place.
